How It Works

No matter where you're located in the UK, the process of scrapping a car can often appear to be a daunting, time-consuming task with many pitfalls to watch out for. Whilst this may have been true a few years ago, here at Scrap My Car we have embraced online technology to make this once procrastinated task now completable in minutes!

Step 1 – Get a Quote

To begin the process of safely and legally disposing of your unwanted vehicle, the first stop is to use Scrap My Car's state of the art online quotation system to receive a market-leading price from an Authorised Treatment Facility in your area. The price we give you at this stage is guaranteed to be the same amount that we will pay you for your unwanted car, assuming that the information you have given us at the time of quoting is accurate.

Step 2 – Arrange FREE Scrap Car Collection

Once you have accepted the quote on offer from Scrap My Car, the next step is to arrange for the collection of your vehicle. While some companies may offer great up front prices, this is an area in which people are often caught out by the small print and can end up becoming liable for significant vehicle removal charges.

The great news is that at Scrap My Car, all of our customers are eligible for our free scrap car removal service which is arranged at a time of your convenience. Our friendly team of car collection specialists will endeavour to pick up your vehicle with the minimum of fuss and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have upon their arrival.

N.B – Remember, it is now against the law to pay cash for scrap metal which includes scrap cars and so no money will be paid to you on the day of collection. All payments are arranged by bank transfer ensuring that all transactions are traceable for the purposes of DVLA auditing.

Step 3 – Receive Your Certificate of Destruction

Having successfully collected and treated your vehicle under the strictest government and EU guidelines, your Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) will then produce and issue a legally recognised Certificate of Destruction (CoD) to absolve you of any further responsibility for your old car. A genuine CoD can only be issued by a DVLA-approved ATF which has specific access to the DVLA car ownership registration system.

It is absolutely essential that a legally operating car recycling centre is used to dispose of your vehicle otherwise you will remain liable for any future crimes or legal action which is taken against the registered vehicle owner.

It has never been more important to use a reputable scrap car aggregator in your search for the best vehicle disposal prices. With up to 75% of UK scrap yards thought to be operating illegally, malpractice can quickly lead to substantial fines and unwanted attention. Give yourself the peace of mind of knowing that your car is being disposed of professionally by contacting Scrap My Car today for a free, no-obligation quotation!
